Dan Prepares for Africa
I (Dan) have been chosen to be be part of a team of
engineers who will travel to the Central African
Republic to install a short-wave station and satellite
equipment. I am both excited and somewhat apprehensive
about this trip. I am excited about the opportunity to
be directly involved in helping one of our partner
ministries in a needy area of the world, but a bit
concerned with how we will handle some of the
difficulties of working in a remote area under adverse
conditions.
We have two prayer requests regarding this trip. First,
pray that the equipment that was shipped from Detroit
to Africa will be delivered to the ministry sites in a
timely manner. Second, pray that we will know the
Lord's timing for making this trip. We are currently
scheduled to depart on November 9, but that date may
change because some political issues unrelated to any
of the mission agencies involved.
Central African Republic Project Description
HCJB World Radio and Integrated Community Development
International (ICDI) have partnered together to
establish a regional short-wave radio station in Boali,
Central African Republic (C.A.R.). The purpose of this
station is to reach the people of C.A.R. with the
Gospel. The main station installation at Boali will
consist of a short-wave transmitter, basic studio
equipment (housed in 20-foot and/or 40-foot shipping
containers), and an antenna (about 1 acre in size).
In order to facilitate the development of Christian
programs and broadcasts to be aired at the station, a
satellite receiver for Trans World Radio French
programming will be established at the Boali site.
Also, a satellite-based Internet connection will be
established at each of three ministry locations in the
country -- Bangui, Boali, and Berberati. The satellite
connections will provide Internet connectivity for
producing and distributing radio programs. Moreover,
satellite access to the Internet will improve e-mail
and voice communication for ICDI, SIL (Wycliffe Bible
Translators) in Bangui, and the Swedish Baptist Mission
in Berberati
Visit to Supporters in Kansas
The first week of August our family drove out to rural
Kansas to visit with my (Dan's) family and my sending
church. It was through the influence of the Brantford
Covenant Church of Clyde, Kansas, that I was inspired
to commit my life to full-time ministry in the Lord's
work. The dear people of this community have supported
us financially for 30 years and continue to do so. We
enjoy meeting and talking with old friends when we go
back to this area, but are saddened to see the
population of this rural community declining -- the
local high school enrollment is less than one third of
what it was when I was a student.
John Wins Second in Photo Contest
In July, John placed second in the open photo
competition at the Elkhart County Fair with a
photograph of his salt-water aquarium. The fern-like
creatures in the picture are really the tails of a type
of salt-water worm.
Jenny, Emily, and John All Taking College Classes
That's right. All three of our children are now
enrolled in college classes. Jenny is finishing up her
third year at Word of Life in Argentina. Emily is in
her second year at Ivy Tech Community College in
Elkhart taking a full load of general courses, and John
attends high school for only half a day each week and
is taking a course in Sociology at Ivy Tech as he
prepares for college next year. Please pray for our
three children as they make long-term life decisions
over the next few months.
Thank you!
Thank you, for your prayers and support of our
ministry. Please pray that we will wisely use what
the Lord has given us to build his kingdom.
