Dan Prepares for Trip to Africa -- Again

Dan was originally scheduled to make a trip to the Central African Republic for most of the month of November, but the trip had to be rescheduled due to customs delays. The needed equipment finally cleared African customs by the end of November, and the project for assembly of a regional shortwave station and three satellite Internet connections for missionary work was rescheduled for February. Dan and three other engineers from the HCJB Global Technology Center plan to depart for Bangui, Central African Republic, on February 1 and return on February 25.

These photos show the two shipping containers to be used as the studio and transmitter buildings at the shortwave site we will be installing in Boali.

We have several prayer requests regarding this project:

  1. Good health and safety for the four of us from Elkhart.
  2. Protection and guidance for our families while we are away for most of the month of February.
  3. Wisdom and clarity of mind as we prepare equipment and supplies.
  4. A successful installation of the shortwave transmitter, antenna, studio equipment, and satellite links.
  5. Insight as to how to use these technical resources and train nationals in their use in order to have an eternal impact for the Kingdom of God.

New Name and Logo for HCJB World Radio

HCJB logo

On January 1, 2007, HCJB World Radio was officially renamed HCJB Global with two main ministries -- HCJB Global Voice (radio and electronic media), and HCJB Global Hands (medical). The Engineering Center in Elkhart is now known as the HCJB Global Technology Center.

The name/logo change is driven by our vision. As we strive to dynamically integrate media and healthcare ministry around the world, we needed a name that would communicate that vision clearly. The new names will allow us to talk about our goal of leadership development through HCJB Global along with our two arenas of ministry -- media through HCJB Global Voice and healthcare through HCJB Global Hands.

Jenny, Emily, and John Starting College Classes

All three of our children have started college classes again this week. On December 9, Jenny returned from Word of Life in Argentina, and on January 8, she began classes at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. Emily starts a new set of classes this week at Ivy Tech Community College here in Elkhart and has decided to pursue a nursing degree. John attends high school in the morning and began a college chemistry class at IUSB (Indiana University South Bend) two days a week in preparation for attending Purdue University next fall. Please pray for our children:

  1. Pray that they all remain faithful to the Lord.
  2. Pray for Jenny as she makes a major cultural adjustment from a Latin American school to a North American school.
  3. Pray for Emily as she begins more advanced biology and nursing classes.
  4. Pray that John will adjust to his college class and that he will be accepted into a Christian co-op house at Purdue.

As always, we thank you for your support of our ministry with your prayers and gifts. May the Lord bless and guide you in this new year.

In Our Lord's Service,
Dan
