Assisting Christian Ministries around the World in 2008

People around the world graphic

During the past year the HCJB Global Technology Center in Elkhart, Indiana has been able to provide technical assistance to Christian ministries in 47 countries. These include: Albania, American Samoa, Australia, Belize, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Canada, Cayman Islands, Central African Republic....

Chad, Colombia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ecuador, Guam, Haiti, Honduras, Indonesia, Kenya, Liberia.....

Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Marshall Islands, Mexico, Mozambique, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea.....

Puerto Rico, Russia, Saipan, Sierra Leone, Spain, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, United Kingdom.....

United States, Western Samoa, and four countries which we are not able to identify due to security reasons.

Twenty years ago HCJB Global was reaching out to the world via shortwave radio from Quito, Ecuador. New technologies and partnerships with other Christian organizations now allow us to help local believers reach their own people with the message of salvation in Jesus Christ. The technology has changed, but the message has not.

The Point of the Arrow

Jesus is Lord graphic

What is the point of what are we doing at HCJB Global? The new president of our mission, Wayne Pederson, summarizes our ministry:

"HCJB Global is using the mass media, healthcare and leadership development to reach people who have never heard, to reach people groups with limited access to the gospel and to mobilize those who can serve. But global evangelism is the 'point of the arrow' for HCJB Global."

"When we provide emergency response, our goal is to introduce people to Jesus. When we provide clean water, it's to point recipients to Jesus, the Living Water. When we provide healing help through our hospitals and clinics, it's to introduce patients to the Great Physician. And in our broadcasting operations, it's to communicate the good news about the one who came to demonstrate God's love and the gift of eternal life to our needy world."

Thank you from Burkina Faso

We recently received the following message from one of our partners in Burkina Faso:

"I really appreciate all HCJB does to put radio in the hands of the national church here. We now have 4 stations in Burkina all using the FM250 and reaching people everyday with His word! I can imagine that sometimes what you do there makes it hard to envision the end results here, but God is using you here.

Thanks again,

Your financial and prayer partnership with us keeps ministries like this one broadcasting the Good News. Thank you!

Danger in Central Africa

Map of Central Africa

Last week, we received a report about the hardships that some of our partner stations endure to keep the Christian message on the air. This information concerns a station that ministers to the people in the area of northern Democratic Republic of Congo, Central African Republic, and Sudan:

The station operator reported on Saturday, December 6, that with the threat of the Lord's Resistance Army (not a Christian organization but a rebel group known for brutality), the station was totally dismantled and the parts and pieces were stored in a secure area hidden from the rebels. Apparently a large percentage of the townspeople fled into the bush. Our contact said that Dungu was spared a lot of property damage. For now, the LRA has moved on to other locations.

It is unclear when it will be safe for folks to return to Dungu and get the station operational again. Let us pray for these Christian brothers and sisters who endure hardship and pray that we will be as faithful as they are when hardship comes to us.

Family News

We have a new prayer card! And for the first time in 24 years there are only two of us on it. Our three children have busy schedules at three different colleges and universities which makes it difficult to get everyone together. We'll try to include a complete family photo in a future letter.

Dan is working on updating the HCJB Global Technology Center's computer network. He also participates in groups doing research for micropower generation and new technologies for the support of evangelistic ministries. In the words of the Apostle Paul, "…so that I may by all means save some." 1 Corinthians 9:22 (NASB)

Barb continues to work half time at Elkhart Christian Academy to supplement our missionary support and help pay for college expenses. She uses her administrative skills as our church Sunday School Superintendent and helps our three children with the intricacies of college course planning.

Jenny (24) is completing her studies at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago this month. She will stay in Chicago through January while investigating several job possibilities in the U.S. and abroad. We ask that you pray for the Lord's guidance in finding a place of service for her.

Emily (21) and John (19) are continuing their college education in Indiana. Pray that they will be sensitive to the Lord as they pursue their studies.
