HCJB World Radio in Indonesia
In February 2004, a new radio station was planted on
Sumba, a remote island in Eastern Indonesia. Our
partner there planted four more local stations during
2004 using our FM suitcase transmitters and antennas.
They report there were 1,098 new believers and 173 new
churches formed as a result of their outreach in
Indonesia last year!
Recent natural disasters in that part of the world have
opened new doors of opportunity for delivering the
Message of Hope.
HCJB World Radio sent a medical team composed of two
doctors, two nurses, and one nurses aide to Indonesia
to help minister to the medical needs of those in the
areas affected by the tsunami. This team has returned
to Nias Island at the request of the Indonesian
government to help provide assistance following the
March 28th earthquake. The 8.7 magnitude quake shook
the island at 11:20 PM killing hundreds of people and
destroying many buildings and homes. Many people are
reported to be trapped under wrecked buildings. The
HCJB medical team was one of the first to arrive on
site after the quake. Please pray that the team’s
ministry will be used to share God’s love and
that it will open doors for further ministry.
Radio Missionaries
In April we received the first engineering prototypes
of the Fixed-Tuned Solar Radios (FTSR) being made for
HCJB World Radio. These “Radio
Missionaries” can be pre-tuned to up to five
Christian radio stations in a region.
When these receivers are distributed to the local
population, they function as an outreach of the local
evangelical ministries. These radio missionaries can
enter the privacy of homes where Christians may be
unwelcome.
The FTSRs are pre-tuned with a computer using a special
coding to prevent them from being used to listen to
other stations. The batteries can be charged with the
built-in solar panel, and the controls are simple
pushbuttons designed for ease of use. The unit can
withstand a mild blow if dropped and will not be
damaged by rain as long as it is not submerged in
water.
Partners have expressed interest in obtaining several
thousand of these portable missionaries which we hope
to have available soon in quantity.
Family News
Dan continues to juggle several
responsibilities at work keeping all the computer
networking systems operating and helping to advise
partners concerning computers in radio. At times it
would be easy to grow weary, but hearing the results of
the work of the HCJB World Radio Engineering Center is
a tremendous encouragement. This past week a pastor
from Ecuador, who was saved through the radio ministry,
spoke to us in our staff meeting and exhorted us to
keep using our talents for the Lord’s glory.
Dan took over the Senior High Sunday School at church
for this quarter. It has been a while since he taught
teens, but the study of Jesus’ “Sermon on
the Mount” is going well. Pray for Dan on Sunday
mornings that what he presents will change the
teens’ lives.
Barb took over the position of Sunday
School superintendent at church in January and also
helps plan morning worship services. We pray that our
activities will have a lasting impact.
After recovering from foot surgery in December,
Jenny (20) worked at a local restaurant
during her “summer” break from Word of Life,
Argentina, and on March 31, she returned to Buenos Aires
to continue a second year of Bible studies in Spanish.
She is pictured above with her friend Georgie, receiving
their first year diplomas. Jenny will remain in Argentina
until December 5, when she returns for Christmas. We miss
Jenny, but she is doing very well in her studies and is
growing in her walk with the Lord.
Emily
(18) is completing her
senior year of high school and has the distinction of
being the only senior on the girl’s softball team.
This fall she plans to stay in Elkhart and attend a local
college.
John (almost 16 and as big as Dad)
is on the high school J.V. golf team. During the summer
and weekends, he works at a local golf course giving him
the privilege of practicing there at no charge. John
continues in the Youth Honors Orchestra with his tuba and
has learned to play the guitar this winter.
How You Can Help
Communication with our friends and supporters is
important to us and vital to keeping you up-to-date
with our ministry at HCJB World Radio. You can help us
reduce our mailing and printing expenses by sending
your email address to
danderson@hcjbeng.org
if have not already done so. Email allows us to
communicate more often at a much lower cost. You can
read our current and past newsletters at
www.danhcjb.org.
You can also assist us in our work by helping us find
new partners that would support us in our ministry. If
you know of some one or some organization that has a
burden for reaching the lost and encouraging believers
through mass media, let us know. We have received some
new financial support the past months for which we are
grateful, but are still lacking partners to replace
those who have passed on or are unable to continue.
Thank you!
Thank you for your financial and prayer support. Because
of your gifts we were able to end 2004 with a positive
balance in our ministry fund. We thank and praise the
Lord for each of you who pray for us and support us
financially. We are partners together Heralding Christ
Jesus’ Blessings.
